Are you really alone when you are alone? i.e. without any company! Just think about this! When we are alone then also our mind is thinking about some person, work, situation of life, surroundings, events of past, plans of future and what not. Even in sleep we are thinking and dreaming. So our mind is always attached with something or else.
The Indian scriptures and saints say that whatever our mind can percieve and sense organs can sense is Maya and our mind is also a part of Maya because we can reflect upon it. We know when our mind is happy, sad, confused etc.
The one who knows the state of mind is the Self and the only truth or 'Sat' which sees all the changes but never changes itself. To be in company (sang) of this Truth (Sat) is called 'Satsang'. To attain such a state is not very easy. It comes only with great devotion and long practice under the benevolent guidance of a Guru or the spiritual Master. However to be in company of a self or God realised Guru is also called Satsang as such Guru is always in the company of the Divine.
